About

Forced to take early retirement in February, 2010 due to chronic ill health, I have taken up Photography as a hobby.  With chronic pain, fatigue & various other health problems, energy & fitness are limited, but that doesn’t stop me reconnecting with the Creativity & Imagination of my youth.

Going for slow strolls around the nearby Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne enables me to get up close & personal with the Flowers, Shrubs & Trees as they change through the seasons.  The insects & bird life in the Gardens have now been added to my photo subjects.

I’m also lucky enough to live 5 minutes away from the main river running by the south side of the city and a 20-30 minute bus ride away from the Bayside beaches to the west of the city.

How lucky can a person get when it comes to seeing Nature at it’s Best.

************************************************************

It is now mid-December 2011 at the time of writing this addition to my ‘About’ page.  I have joined FOTZ (Friends of the Zoo) at Melbourne Zoo recently and am now embarking on some new animal photography.  Unlike the Royal Botanic Gardens, my new photography subjects are a little more reliable in their appearance and sometimes a little more predictable in their movement patterns.

Melbourne Zoo is one of the most beautiful environments in which to exhibit some of our Native animals and ensure the ongoing protection and survival of some of the rarer species (as well as a number of Fauna from other parts of the world).  The landscaping of this Zoo is inspiring.  Great thought has been given to the habitats of the many much-loved animal species.  Not only are the animal exhibits worthy of praise, but the walking paths and facilities at Melbourne Zoo among the best I have seen (in my travels overseas and to other zoos in the 1970′s).

So while the RGB (Royal Botanic Gardens) is undergoing some further work on the Wetlands Project and new Landscaping (necessitating a couple of my favourite walking paths being closed), I hope to bring you some animal photos from Melbourne Zoo (which is celebrating it’s 150th Anniversary in 2012).

My new hobby as an amateur photographer is growing day by day and I feel very blessed to be able to get out and about while living close to the inner heart of Melbourne city – recently voted as the Most Liveable City in the World.

Slow Walking and Photography in the RBG, Bayside Beaches and now, Melbourne Zoo, has almost become a Healing Balm to my daily Chronic battle with Pain & Fatigue – as well as a distraction to the symptoms from other chronic health conditions.

Buddha once said that Being in Nature is soothing to the Human Spirit and I can certainly relate to that notion.  It’s been more healing that any drug – natural or synthetic - that I have ever taken in the Past.

So take my advice if you have Chronic Ill Health and Pain…………………….get out in the great outdoors (if you can).  Be in the Moment and truly see Nature at it’s Best – it’s a Great Healer.

I may be contacted on victoriaaa1233@gmail.com if you have any questions about my photos or wish to use them in any way.

  1. Hi Vicki

I think it’s wonderful that you have begun the photographic adventure in conjunction with your health journey – bravo! As I am in sort of a similar position to you in terms of having to give up work to care for my husband, I can really identify. When I was ‘surfing’ wordpress blogs for something that gelled with my own, I was struck by your bird photos. Now I am going to look at your ‘camera info.’ section!

Lovely to be able to keep in touch with like-minded people this way. Thanks Vicki!

  2. Hello Victoria – it seems we have a blog-friend in common. You have a beautiful site…which I shall be visiting regularly. Thank you for sharing your work/art with the rest of us.

    • You are most welcome to my PhotoBlog and thankyou for your kind words. Creative Hobbies are great healers for the Mind, Body & Spirit. I have briefly read some of your own blog and you certainly have a wonderful creative way with words – in fact, you seem to paint a picture with words. I’m about to subscribe to it – I can see it be a very enjoyable read.

(I might mention that my Blog is called Victoria A Photography – there was already a Victoria Photography set up in wordpress.com. when I set up mine, so I had to choose a slightly different name. By chance, both my middle name and my surname begin with ‘A’, so it seemed an easy and logical choice to separate me from the other Victoria Photography).

  3. I agree, Victoria, creative hobbies can certainly be great healers. Thank you for your nice words about my blog…they are especially nice. :) I shall look forward to your visits, thank you.

I corrected your blog title on my blog-roll. Thank you. :)

  4. I could have sworn that I pushed the “follow” button a couple months ago…I even put you on my blog-roll… I wondered why I wasn’t getting anything from you…. I should be now! :)

      • Yes, I think that was the problem…the WP button said I was following, but when I looked at the email widget, it said I wasn’t…but I am now. :)

  5. Hi, your pictures are very great, and the way you describe the place where you live is very touching! Melbourne is a place I keep in my heart as I spent there 6 special months when I was teen ager…I’ll come back again!

    • Thankyou for your comment. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay in Melbourne (for that 6 months). It’s a great ‘Garden’ city and very multi-cultural. Melbourne is a capital city that rivals the best I have seen in my travels overseas. In fact, it was voted the World’s most Liveable City.

I DO so hope you are able to re-visit some time in the future.

(But be sure to bring clothes for all seasons – Melbourne’s weather is notoriously and predictably UNPREDICTABLE. LOL. One minute it’s hot and humid, next minute it’s hail and flooding rains).

  6. I remember very well the weather in Melbourne ;-) ! I’ll come back for sure, my host family is still waiting for me to be back, hopefully it will be with my children very soon! I wish you all the best

  7. Hi, Your pictures and your stories have a unique way of telling a story… am glad you never gave up in life and thats a positive way of responding to any challenges we face in this world. Be blessed!! n i will be passing by to this amazing blog of yours :) frequently ..

    • Thankyou Mose,
I feel really blessed to be able to get out and about taking photos (despite chronic pain and fatigue).
Hope you enjoyed your visit to my PhotoBlog, and most of all, hope you enjoy seeing my side of the world.
I dropped by your own Blog and enjoyed it very much – thankyou for sharing.
