Butterfly House – Melbourne Zoo
Some more photos from last Saturday’s Zoo excursion.
The Butterfly House was very crowded and seemed hotter and more humid than usual, so I didn’t stay long. I noticed that for the first time (that I have seen), they had platters of fresh fruit for the Butterflies to dine on. I didn’t have my macro lens with me, but as usual, the 18-200mm telephoto rose to the challenge when I took a couple of close-ups.
In the images with the fruit, they almost look like they are laying eggs in the fruit. Could this be possible?

Those butterflies are beautiful yay
They are kinda pretty – it’s said Heaven is filled with them – LOL.
Great shots, Victoria!
Thankyou Julie
Nice set – I use my zoom for butterflies too unless I can get really close.
Thanks Lorri.
Proximity to the actual dozens/hundreds of butterflies varies quite a lot. I try to wait for them to settle and keep still on the hand rail zig-zagging through the large hot-house. Hate it when they land on your hand, sleeve or even hair as you can’t photograph them at all. The children get a real thrill though.
Love it.. The third photo down.. looks like she’s scrutinizing you…hahaha
I agree – looks like she’s looking straight at me, but then I often have birds and animals look at me, so why not insects.
Wow, great photo set!
Thanks Scott. Glad you enjoyed them.
